Freo Secures IRDAI License to Expand Insurance Offerings

Freo, the digital finance application, has received a corporate agent license from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), allowing it to offer a range of customized insurance products to its 25 million users. This initiative comes amid India’s low insurance penetration rate of approximately 4.2%, which is significantly below the global average of 7%. With a commitment to “Insurance For All By 2047,” Freo aims to provide affordable and intuitive insurance solutions to address the needs of its diverse user base, particularly in Tier II and III cities.

Current Insurance Landscape

India’s insurance sector faces numerous challenges, including a widespread perception of insurance as complex and unnecessary, leading to many consumers being uninsured or underinsured. Issues such as limited personalized options, mis-selling, and low consumer trust hinder the adoption of insurance as a vital safety net.

Growth Prospects

Despite these challenges, the insurance industry is poised for growth, with projections indicating an average annual growth rate of 7%, three times higher than the global rate. Regulatory efforts aim to encourage companies to develop cost-effective products and enhance accessibility, especially in underserved regions.

Freo’s Insurance Solutions

Freo plans to introduce tailored insurance products that cater to various needs, including specialized plans for women’s health, supplementary options for existing health policies, and coverage for common diseases like malaria and dengue. By leveraging partnerships with top insurance brands, Freo seeks to enhance user trust and experience, further solidifying its position in the market.
