PM Modi & PM Jugnauth inaugurate airstrip, jetty in Agalega Island

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth jointly inaugurated significant infrastructure projects in Agalega Island, marking a milestone in bilateral cooperation between India and Mauritius. The inauguration ceremony, conducted virtually, included the unveiling of an airstrip and the St James Jetty, along with six other projects financed by India.

Key Projects Inaugurated

  1. Airstrip Development: The newly constructed airstrip will enhance connectivity to Agalega Island, facilitating smoother transportation and promoting economic growth in the region.

  2. St James Jetty: The inauguration of the St James Jetty provides crucial maritime infrastructure, facilitating trade and transportation between Agalega Island and the mainland.
  3. Additional Projects: Six other projects, supported financially by India, were also inaugurated, further bolstering infrastructure and socio-economic development in Agalega Island.

Bilateral Cooperation and Partnerships

Prime Minister Modi emphasized Mauritius’ pivotal role as a key partner in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’ and highlighted the special partnership under Vision SAGAR. This inauguration underscores the deepening ties between India and Mauritius, reaffirming their commitment to mutual development and cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.
