Pralhad Joshi Takes Charge as Education Minister After Dharmendra Pradhan Resigns

Pralhad Joshi, a cabinet minister in the Union Government, has been given the additional responsibility of looking after the Department of Education because of the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan from the Union Council of Ministers. The announcement was made after the Honorable President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of Pradhan upon the recommendation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as per Article 75(2) of the Indian Constitution. Joshi will continue with his present departments till further orders.

Pralhad Joshi New Minister of Education

As per an official communication from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the task of leading the Ministry of Education has been allocated to Pralhad Joshi in addition to his current job responsibilities.

At present, Joshi is serving in the following capacities,

Minister of Consumer Affairs
Minister of Food and Public Distribution
Minister of New and Renewable Energy

With this development, he shall now also take charge of administering the Ministry of Education.

Resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan

The resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan has been approved by the President with immediate effect as per Clause (2) of Article 75 of the Indian Constitution.

As per the formal announcement, the resignation was approved upon the advice of the Prime Minister.

As a result of this change, Education Ministry is now under the additional charge of Pralhad Joshi.

Official Statement

The communication released by the President’s House mentioned that,

Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation has been accepted by the President with effect from now.
The Minister’s resignation has been accepted on the advice of the Prime Minister.
Mr. Pralhad Joshi has been given the charge of the Ministry of Education in addition to his existing ministries.

The appointment is effective immediately.
