SHATAYU Dashboard Launched to Connect Trained Caregivers with Senior Citizens Across India

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched the SHATAYU (Senior Holistic Care Assistance and Training for Your Utility) Dashboard to strengthen elderly care services across India. Launched on 22 May 2026, the digital platform aims to connect trained geriatric caregivers with senior citizens who require professional care and assistance.

The dashboard is designed to create a centralized database of certified caregivers, making it easier for elderly citizens and their families to access trained professionals for quality care. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to building an inclusive and age-friendly support system for India’s growing senior citizen population.

What is the SHATAYU Dashboard?

SHATAYU, which stands for Senior Holistic Care Assistance and Training for Your Utility, is an online platform that enables trained geriatric caregivers to register themselves and offer their services to senior citizens in need.

The dashboard serves as a bridge between qualified caregivers and elderly individuals, ensuring that trained professionals are easily accessible across different regions of the country.

The platform is managed by the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), an autonomous organization functioning under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. NISD is also responsible for training geriatric caregivers under various government programmes.

Objective of the SHATAYU Dashboard

The primary objective of the SHATAYU Dashboard is to create a reliable and accessible database of trained geriatric caregivers while improving elderly care services across India.

The initiative seeks to:

  • Connect trained caregivers with senior citizens.
  • Create a nationwide database of certified geriatric caregivers.
  • Improve access to professional elderly care.
  • Promote quality healthcare and support services for senior citizens.
  • Strengthen India’s elderly care ecosystem through digital technology.

Opportunity for Previously Trained Caregivers

To expand the database, the Ministry has also invited caregivers who completed their geriatric caregiver training during 2023–24 and earlier years to register themselves on the SHATAYU Dashboard.

This self-registration mechanism is intended to ensure that the maximum number of trained caregivers become available on the platform, allowing more senior citizens to benefit from their services.

The Ministry believes that a larger caregiver database will improve accessibility and strengthen support for elderly citizens across the country.

Data Verification and Technical Improvements

The Ministry has clarified that technical teams are continuously monitoring the dashboard to verify registrations and improve data quality.

Any initial technical issues or data inconsistencies are being addressed through regular interventions to ensure that the platform remains accurate, reliable, and user-friendly.

The process of refining the caregiver database is ongoing as more trained professionals continue to register on the portal.

Why Are Many Caregivers from the Same District?

The Ministry explained that the geographical distribution of caregivers depends largely on the location of training centres.

Candidates generally enroll from nearby areas where the training centres are located. As a result, several caregivers listed on the dashboard may belong to the same district, city, or town.

This concentration is a natural outcome of the localized training model rather than any irregularity in the registration process.

Ministry Clarifies Misleading Social Media Claims

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has also cautioned the public against relying on misleading information circulating on social media regarding the SHATAYU Dashboard.

According to the Ministry, the dashboard is based on a self-registration mechanism intended to empower trained caregivers. Any initial glitches are being actively resolved by the technical support team, and the information being shared on certain social media platforms does not accurately represent the functioning of the portal.

Role of the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD)

The National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) plays a key role in implementing the initiative. It is responsible for:

  • Training geriatric caregivers.
  • Managing the SHATAYU Dashboard.
  • Maintaining caregiver records.
  • Supporting capacity building in elderly care services.

NISD functions under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and works to strengthen social defence programmes across the country.

Significance of the Initiative

India’s elderly population is steadily increasing, creating a growing demand for trained caregivers and specialized elderly care services. The SHATAYU Dashboard is an important step toward addressing this need by creating a digital platform that connects qualified caregivers with senior citizens.

The initiative is expected to improve the availability of professional caregiving services while promoting dignity, independence, and better quality of life for older persons.
