Operation Vigilant Storm currently underway in South Korea

Operation Vigilant Storm: The U.S. Air Force and several of its allies in the Asia-Pacific area will improve combat readiness and interoperability through Operation Vigilant Storm, a four-day training exercise involving hundreds of aircraft. The Operation Vigilant Storm exercise, which is scheduled to take place between October 31 and November 4, has already drawn criticism from North Korea’s Foreign Ministry.

Operation Vigilant Storm: Key Points

  • Armed units from the United States and the Republic of Korea (ROK) started the planned exercise, according to Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder, the Pentagon’s press secretary.
  • A total of 240 aircraft and thousands of military personnel from the ROK Air Force, US Air Force, US Marine Corps, US Navy, and US Army will participate in the four-day exercise.
  • The Korean Air Operations Center, which is in charge of coordinating the operation, will supervise their roughly 1,600 missions.
  • According to the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, the units would cooperate during training to carry out important air missions like close air support, defensive counterair, and emergency air operations round-the-clock. Supporting forces on the ground will train defence tactics and how to survive an attack at the same time.

Operation Vigilant Storm: About the training

  • During the training, both Korean and American personnel will fly fourth-generation aircraft, including F-35A and F-35B aircraft from the ROKAF and the US Marine Corps, respectively.
  • The objective is to blend combat preparedness experiences and foster cross-service relationships between airmen and marines.
  • Several aircraft will depart from Air Force bases in the Republic of Korea, Osan, and Kunsan, as well as from U.S. Army Garrison Camp Humphreys, all of which are located in South Korea, to set up for the session.
  • In order to support the training exercise, the Royal Australian Air Force will also send one of its KC-30 air refuelers from its No. 33 Squadron to the area.

Operation Vigilant Storm: North Korea Reaction

  • Operation Vigilant Storm, the training incited the North Korean military and leadership.
  • The Vigilant Storm training exercise was denounced as such by North Korea’s Foreign Ministry, which also threatened to take more severe action if it persisted.
  • Two short-range ballistic missiles fired by North Korea into the sea last week caused a stir.
