Kerala to Set Up Coconut Park to Boost Value Addition and Exports

The Kerala government set to develop a Coconut Park, facilitated by the Coconut Development Board, with the objective of ensuring that the state’s coconut industry gets more emphasis on processing, value addition, and export. Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan made the declaration while launching the country-wide celebrations of World Coconut Day 2026 on September 2. It is hoped that this Coconut Park would facilitate modern processing and generation of premium quality coconut products meant for export and create new opportunities for entrepreneurship and investments.

Coconut Park to Emphasize on Value Addition

The Coconut Park project is intended to be a platform for modern processing and value addition of coconuts.

As per the declaration by the Chief Minister, this park will ensure that quality products are produced, which will meet the export requirements. At the same time, it will help companies to develop new products and strengthen their market presence.

The emphasis will go beyond the cultivation process and will include processing, packaging, branding, and marketing.

Kerala Set to Boost Its Coconut Industry

Kerala has been one of the biggest producers of coconuts in India. Nevertheless, Satheesan highlighted that Kerala fell behind in the process of coconut production and productivity.

He urged for a well-coordinated and comprehensive approach towards bringing Kerala back to the forefront of the industry. Higher value addition and better market linkages have been projected to play a significant role in this case.

Support from the Government for the Industry

As reported by the State Minister of Agriculture T Siddique, the government was ready to provide all the required land and help for this initiative.

He pointed out the importance of developing a comprehensive strategy for the rejuvenation of Kerala’s coconut industry. The government was going to cooperate with the industry representatives to explore all the opportunities in this regard.

Export Oriented Projects Underway

The state government plans to initiate dialogues with exporters and other interested parties in the next three months, the Agriculture Minister said.

The discussions would be aimed at setting up export oriented value addition projects and building up business-to-business linkages for coconut and coconut based products.

Such linkages can help exporters of processed coconut products access foreign buyers in international markets.
