Do You Know Who is the Owner of Amul?

Amul is one of the most trusted and loved food brands in India. From butter to milk, cheese to ice cream, it is found in almost every home. The famous yellow butter pack with the polka-dot girl is easily recognized by everyone. But many people still wonder – who actually owns Amul? The answer is quite unique and inspiring.

What does Amul Mean?

The name Amul is not just a random word. It stands for Anand Milk Union Limited. It started in a small town called Anand in Gujarat. The word “Amul” also comes from the Sanskrit word “Amulya,” which means priceless. This perfectly matches the value the brand holds in people’s lives.

How did Amul Begin?

Amul was started on 14 December 1946. At that time, dairy farmers in Gujarat were being treated unfairly by middlemen. These agents paid them very low prices for their milk.

A farmer leader, Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel, decided to take action. With the guidance of Verghese Kurein and support from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Morarji Desai, farmers came together to form a cooperative.

This cooperative allowed farmers to sell milk directly, without any middlemen. This simple idea changed everything.

The Role in White Revolution

Amul played a big role in India’s White Revolution, which made the country one of the largest milk producers in the world. It helped millions of farmers earn better incomes and improve their lives, especially in rural areas.

Who owns Amul?

Here comes the most interesting part – Amul does not have a single owner.

Amul is owned by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF). This organization is made up of millions of dairy farmers.

In simple words, Amul is owned by around 3.6 million farmers. Any farmer who supplies milk to the cooperative becomes a part-owner. That means Amul truly belongs to the people.

Who Run Amul Today?

Today, Amul is managed by professionals under the GCMMF. The current Managing Director is Jayen Mehta.

The organization handles a huge amount of milk every day and works with thousands of village cooperatives across India.

Why Amul is Special?

Amul is not just a company – it is a movement. It has helped farmers become independent and strong. It also ensures that customers get quality dairy products at fair prices.

What makes Amul truly special is that it is owned by common people, not by any single rich person or big business family.
